I am a member of the Bowell branch in Lincolnshire, England.
We live in the Fens and all around her are located drains and rivers.
We have all been involved in Match Fishing at some time. In one All England Championships 6 members of the Family were involved. Fishing for Bourne Angling Club were Andrew Bowell, Eric Bowell and Raymond Bowell. Fishing for Holbeach Angliong Club were Oddie Bowell, Brian Bowell and Stephen Bowell.
The All England Championships is for teams of 12 so we could have made half a team. The match was held on the River Welland between Spalding and Deeping St James.
I remember the match well. Bourne drew a peg next to the famous Leicester Likely Lads. I was drawn next to their captain Dave Downes. Leicester won the team event on the day. Unfortunately I never had a bite all day.
Bourne were a fairly successful team. Fishing in the All England Championships and eventually being promoted to the top Division. They also fished in the Angling Times Winter League Eastern Counties Division and the South Holland Winter League. I was a member of the team that won the South Holland Winter League.
My best result was in the Angling Times Winter League. This match is for teams of 20 and I won my section and finished 5th overall.
Holbeach Angling Club fish for the Sid Bowell Cup on the South Holland Main Drain every year. Sid Bowell was my Grandfather.
